Well, if the summer is anything like the spring, it’s going to be a very busy time having fun. It all started off with a visit to Edmonton Harley-Davidson and the grand opening of their new facility (see pages 50-52 for details). A couple weeks later it was time to visit Vancouver Harley-Davidson and help celebrate that store’s 90 years in business. The ribbon in front of the shop’s new locale was cut and the Deeley Motorcycle Exhibition was officially opened during a ceremony that included top Harley brass. (Again, turn to pages 50-52 for more detail). With that done, it was off to Calgary to toast Kane’s Harley-Davidson on their 50 years in business. These are all friends I made during CB’s 27 years in the magazine publishing business. I also wanted to get down to Morden, Manitoba and visit with Rudy Enns and family as Gaslight Harley-Davidson celebrates 30 years in the business. But, one can’t be everywhere and that might have to fit into a summer ride. After all, they have one of the finest, original Big Twin collections on display. It’s well worth the ride anytime I’m near. One of the reasons my spring was so action packed was family, and over the years through motorcycling I’ve met many friends that became part of my extended family as we all grew together having lives on two wheels and making a living at it. Today I look back in wonder and the slogan “you’ve come a long way baby” is something I think about when I see the family growing up and the business becoming very successful. I enjoy seeing family-run businesses make it in today’s world. Some carry on through generations—or at least the name carries on—and what a great way to be remembered. Success in everyday life is one of those enjoyments pay cannot replace. The benefits outweigh your chosen lifestyle and on two wheels it just doesn’t get much better. Ride my friends and enjoy life this summer because, as you know, it does not last forever (although they can’t take the time you already have). I’m taking more time off to spend with family this summer and maybe even get a little riding in along the way. As much as I love my job there are other “things” to do in life than pull a nine-to-fiver: riding, family and friends, all three that have got me through life this far. And as life gets shorter those “things” mean more and I intend to carry on with the lifestyle I’ve become accustomed to. If you’re on two wheels now you know what I’m talking about, and if you’re thinking of buying a motorcycle and joining the ranks of the privileged few, come on aboard, you’ll be glad you did and you’ll meet the greatest friends along the road! This spring also included a new and improved website for Canadian Biker magazine which will seem a lot more interactive for our subscribers and riders who register to the online site. It will be much easier to post events for the summer and if you want to share one of your rides with our readership, this will be a new starting point to do so as we look for more contributors from across Canada. And women riders, we want to hear more from you about your experiences this summer riding two wheels. And don’t forget, if you subscribe before June 22, you are automatically entered to win a new Suzuki in our Ride into Summer sweepstakes, produced by Suzuki Canada and Canadian Biker magazine. Enjoy your summer. Comments (0)
