Canadian Biker - Oct/Nov 2011

The October / November 2011 issue of Canadian Biker, Canada’s favourite motorcycle magazine, is now on news stands and mailed to our subscribers.

Gracing the cover is Harley-Davidson’s new-for-2012 Harley-Davidson Dyna Switchback. Equipped with hardbags and windshield, the Switchback aims to take Harley enthusiasts on the open road for a lower price (MSRP $17,559) than some of the manufacturer’s other touring offerings. Moreover, the lower price allows for a larger budget for accessories.

On the other end of the touring spectrum we feature the loaded-to-the-rafters Victory Cross Country. With top case, hardbags and fairing, the $23,999 bike is powered by the same 106 cu. in. Freedom V-Twin that  is now standard across Victory’s line. With 97 hp and 113 ft/lbs. torque, it’s the  “jewel in a setting.” Featuring voluminous cargo capacity,  it would take more than 41 gallons of milk to fill its bags ... so don’t be afraid to pack heavy.

Meanwhile, on the other end of the displacement spectrum is Suzuki’s TU250. There is something extremely enjoyable about simplicity. A single-cylinder 250cc bike that’s light of weight and even lighter on the gas, the TU 250 is surprisingly eager and capable. The city might be the bike’s natural home but rides into the country are far from out of the question.

On the road we head to the St. Victor Boogie. An event that has been running for the past three decades, the Boogie shows few signs of slowing down. Set amid the rolling green hills of southern Saskatchewan it is also a great riding destination.

Next get off your steel horse amid the costumed inhabitants of Barkerville—a living museum that celebrates life during the heyday of gold rushes in British Columbia’s interior.

Vintage Hall this month is all about a rotary-engined Norton that, with the exception of the Wankel power plant, looks a lot like an early-1990s Yamaha.

Finally, we stop at an A&W to support a good cause and have a frosty mug of root beer.  Enjoy!
